Invitation to Distinguished Visitor’s Seminar 2019

About the Project

A collaboration funded by the University of Auckland Faculty of Arts, the project will bring together scholars from across the Faculty and beyond, in a field that is researching the ways in which European artists and writers have represented indigenous peoples of the Pacific, North America and Africa in historical and contemporary literature and art. The project aims to deconstruct that gaze by incorporating indigenous methodologies and critiques of European stereotypes and representations.

~ Our Objective ~

The objective of this research project is to create and continue conversations that bring together different perspectives and experiences, in the spirit of Vision Mātauranga. The collaboration will allow researchers in the team to discover new angles for approaching our individual research areas, which have overlapping interests and theoretical groundings in Indigenous Studies, Māori Studies, Postcolonial Studies, critical theory, art history, linguistics and comparative literature.
